Leatt Brace

11.05.07 | The Helmet for Your Neck

I decided it was time to quick laboring over the cost and pony up for a new Leatt neck brace. Yeah, they are expensive (it's probably more than any other piece of protective gear you'll ever buy), but considering the alternative, it's money well spent.

It felt a little strange the first couple of rides. It takes some tweaking to get the fit right, but I'm used to it now and hardly notice it. Another benefit is it seems to help stabilize my head while riding gnarly terrain, thereby decreasing overall fatigue. A definite plus during 2 hour plus moto sessions.

I'm sure I'm like many other riders in this sport who think about their families each time I throw a leg over the bike. I always try my best to ride responsibly, and in control, but there are always variables that come into play. I don't think anyone ever goes out with the intent to hurt themselves—it just happens sometimes.

I like to quote the line from the movie True Romance where Christian Slater says: "It's better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it". i'd sure hate to get hurt and look back thinking... "man, if only I'd spent the $400 bucks". Sure, it's no guarantee of injury prevention, but I can honestly say I'm doing my best to minimize the risk.
